今天的中国，人们将纪念辛亥革命一百周年，但是辛亥革命的追求和梦想究竟实现了多少？有几人发问？今天的学界，据说遗憾晚清立宪未成的声调渐成主流。而在我看来，立宪未成固然可惜，但满清帝国确实没有立宪的土壤，即使当时勉强君主立宪成功，中国也未必不在20世纪的中期像伊朗和阿富汗一样干掉君主，何况正如赵烈文等人的说法：“本朝开国太过残暴血腥。”
天朝比起沙皇俄国的崩溃，还多一层红肿的溃烂之处：那就是历史记忆深处民族征服的伤口。所以，俄国君主制崩溃，短暂共和立宪，旋即走向极权，按索尔仁尼琴的象征写法是红轮滚滚，中国的君主制崩溃，却是黄轮滚滚。不久，中国也迅速赶上了俄国的节奏，在巨大的黄轮边缘涂上一抹血红。
今天检讨晚清残局，回看晚清夕阳残照，对20世纪三股激『荡』的文化思『潮』看得更加清晰：激进主义、保守主义、自由主义。最终激进主义占了上风，笼罩整个20世纪中国，其历史链的演进，相信许多人看得分明。
请我们今人，不要把制造持续不安的动『荡』和后续黑夜的责任，推给那些弯弓『射』杀晚清残阳的辛亥革命志士，“黄花岗的烈士地下有知，能否原谅我们？”
正如莎士比亚式的台词会说：痛苦，长久的痛苦，让我们帮助帝国结束长久的痛苦吧。假如我们穿越时空，恭逢晚清帝国即将溃败，我们该怎么做呢？我们在看透其冥顽不化、拒不立宪、拒绝把“满清皇室万世尊戴”的极端权力还给人民的面目后，我们唯一能做的，也许就是帮满清王朝终结他的痛苦，把他扭曲变形的丑陋残躯尽快安葬，防止他的专制阴魂复活。然后，引入浩『荡』的人权、自由、民主西风，除此，身在帝国晚年的人们还能做点什么？！
